When To Visit

Tarangire can be visited year-round and has a short rainy season.If you want an unspoiled safari view, visiting the park during the dry season from June through October is best.Most animals will head towards the Tarangire River to stay hydrated during this time, giving travelers excellent game viewing opportunities.

Wildlife In Tarangire

Elephants

The number one boast that Tarangire National Park can make is that it is home to some of the largest concentrations of elephants in the continent. They roam the park in massive herds. Their presence is especially noticeable during the dry season, when they gather around the Tarangire River.

Lions

Another animal species that is synonymous with the wildlife highlight of Tarangire are the apex predators, lions. They can be often found resting in the shade during the daytime (and sometimes even up on trees). Although, they become active during the cooler evenings for hunting purposes.

Warthogs

Unsurprisingly (because the park’s name literally means ‘river of warthogs), Tarangire is home to a lot of these herbivores. They are known for their unusual habit of kneeling down to feed. This makes them easier to see in the park’s grasslands.

Fringe-Eared Oryxes

The fringe-eared oryx, also known as the beisa oryx, is an antelope species found in Tarangire National Park. They are known for their striking appearance, with long, straight horns and distinct facial markings.

Cheetahs

The Wild Cheetahs of Tanzania : Tanzania is home to a healthy population of cheetahs, one of the most iconic and charismatic of Africa's big cats.

Leopard

The Tarangire leopard, with its golden rosettes, epitomizes grace in Tanzania's diverse landscapes. Spotting this elusive feline adds a rare thrill to Tarangire National Park safaris.

Zebra
